How do you get more focus in my life? That’s a great question and one that deserves a great answer. In today’s article, which is part one of a two-part series I want to share with you 4 ways that help you focus, next week I’ll share the other three.
So here’s my first 4 ways of 7 to get more focus in your life:
1. Create a list: I love lists. I love writing goals and tasks on what I need to do and accomplish. This is my first recommendation to you. In the evening before you go to bed write a list of things that you have to get done the next day. Start with the most important thing to the least important thing. Keep your list in a place where you will see it and mark off each time you complete a task.
2. Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Studies have shown that during sleep certain parts of the body, including the brain is regenerating itself (our bodies are actually being made new and creative while we sleep) so that we can function at a high optimal level. Without sufficient sleep the neurons in your brains start to malfunction affecting your ability to focus and accomplish goals.
3. Eat breakfast. Numerous medical studies over the years support the fact that eating the right foods for breakfast refuel the body and improves your ability to focus. Eating the right combination of nutrients is fuel for the body increasing your ability to focus during the day. Try some fruit in the morning if you don’t want to eat too much. I love bananas and strawberries in the morning! (What’s your favorite fruit?).
4. Train your brain. Distractions set off alerts in the brain causing you to lose focus turning your attention from what you need to be concentrating on to something else. Turn off all distractions and commit to focusing on the task at hand. To train your brain try this exercise:
For five minutes focus on one thing only, like reading; meditating or just listening. This exercise will train your brain not to be thrown off focus by those alerts that come from everywhere all day.
Next week I’ll publish the other three.
