Recently I was blessed to receive two journals. One from a dear Sister and friend and fellow master scribe. The other from a spiritual daughter who has been with me in Watchman on Walls since it began in 2012. Both journals are a prophetic sign of a new season.
Both gifts were given to me in the latter part of October. I received the first journal at the 2017 Scribal Advance in Atlanta. The second journal arrived a few days later in the mail.
When I first started journaling in 1994 I didn’t know what a vital tool and resource my journals would become. In 1994 I was pastoring in West Virginia and journaling became a new way to communicate my heart to my Father in heaven. I prayed through my journals.
As the years went on journaling took on different meaning. I would record research for sermons and bible studies. Ideas for vision casting and the personal pain I experienced and endured.
These two gifts are the first time that others have sown journals into my life and I’m awed and humbled. Because these gifts are so valuable to me I have sanctified them as I seek the Lord for how He wants me to use them.
However, as I’ve suggested in the title these two gifts, given to me in the same time period, are both a prophetic sign. The Lord taught me a few years ago that sometime gifts can be a sign from Him that I have entered a new season. A few years ago I purchased two books and when they arrived in the mail Holy Spirit told me that these gifts were a sign that I had entered a new season. I feel that same stirring now after receiving the journals.
The first mention of gifts in the Bible is recorded in Genesis 25 where Abraham gave gifts to the sons he bore through concubines and sent them away. The gifts were a portion of inheritance. It was a seed to create their future.
Then Abraham sent them away. This is a beautiful picture of Apostolic operation. The word sent in hebrew is Shalach, which is an apostolic Word. Abraham, a father is like God the Father who is also the apostolic gave gifts to his sons and then sent them to other lands to build and create their futures. They were leaving home to build new futures for themselves and their descendants.
From this passage and others the Lord taught me that the giving of gifts can declare a new beginning, a new season. Gifts are seeds sown to build a harvest. I’m thankful for these gifts and the new season they declare.
