Sunday morning I walked into the sanctuary of the church and sat down after calling the people to enter the courts of praise. As I sat there all of a sudden I started to feel something in my spirit. It was a deep mournful feeling as if a death had occurred. I could feel emotional pain.
I began to pray and ask Holy Spirit to reveal what I was feeling. He said that the people are mourning and its not time. He gave me a revelation about mourning out of time (Ecclesiastes 3:4).
I addressed the congregation from Psalms 30:11 and shared how mourning out of season creates the following conditions:
1. Mourning covers the heart like a shield thus not allowing new revelation to enter in. This kind of mourning can even harden a heart if it remains to long or enter in at the wrong time.
2. This type of mourning causes you to speak curses over yourself and your future. Naomi said, “Don’t call me Naomi, call me Mara (which means bitter).” Ruth 1:20. Naomi was mourning in the wrong season for the Lord had brought her home during the harvest season.
3. Mourning can keep you stuck in past seasons and when a door opens you can’t enter because you are bound in mourning in a past seasons. Many believers are missing the now move of God because they are mourning how the church use to be.
The writer of Psalms 30 compares mourning to a sackcloth, a piece of clothing. It covers you and identities the season you are in. What you wear is what you agree with.
The Lord is not against mourning for He understands what loss is. Every time a soul is lost all of heaven mourns that loss. Jesus promised blessed are they that mourn for they will be comforted.
But the Lord wanted me to exhort the people not to mourn that day because He had an impartation for them to receive. My son Quincy was preaching and the people needed to hear what the Lord was saying to His church.
I then prayed over the people but the mourning didn’t lift, except one woman who began to rejoice and dance in the Spirit. Truly Holy Spirit caused that one daughter of the Lord to turn her mourning into dancing!
And the Lord gave my son a powerful word from Amos 3:7, “God reveals secrets to His prophets.”
Don’t allow mourning to cause you to miss your open door!
