Joe sat down at his desktop. He needed to do something to get his mind off of his troubles. He was unemployed, in the first year of marriage and a baby was on the way. This was not how he saw life for himself. After graduating from college and marrying the love of his life he was sure that he was the path of all of his dreams coming true. Even though he didn’t get the job in Chicago that he was sure he would get he and his wife Melanie was very sure that they were in the right place at the right time.
Joe took a job in his hometown and he and Melanie settled down to build a life together. A few months after they were married Melanie was pregnant and there first child would be born the month of their first anniversary.
And then the unthinkable happened; Joe was terminated from his job. With a shaky job market Joe had to make ends meet the best way he could. he worked a series of temporaory jobs and sold newspaper in the morning.
Each month brought new challenges for Joe and Melanie. Melanie was falling into depression, the bills were piling up and Joe hated coming home to face his pregnant wife wth very little money. The only thing that kept them together was their faith in God.
Joe prayed daily asking God to give him favor so that things could better for them before the baby was born. He asked God to open a door for him to get a lucrative position.
And one day as Joe prayed he remembered a conversation he had with a professor in college five years earlier.
“Joe you are a gifted writer. You should pursue writing as a vocation. You have what it takes to make it as a successful author.”
The next day when Joe came home from work he sat down at his laptop, and created a blog site on Word press and wrote his first blog. He called the site Joe’s dream. Without any knowledge of SEO’s and any of the techncal knowledge in how to succeed in blogging Joe wrote his first blog on the challenges of his life. He shared his heart and poured out his pain. he wasn’t sure who he was writing to and why he wrote what he wrote but each day Joe’s Dream became his diary, a written account of his and Melanie’s life.
In a couple of months Joe had built a following of thousands, there were many men who were hurting like Joe and who also had dreams. And then Joe was contacted by a publisher who read his blogs and wanted Joe to write a book. The company offered Joe a lucrative contract and a sizeable advance. Within a year Joe’s first book was published and his life changed when the book made it on the New York Times Best Seller list. Joe’s Dream became Joe’s reality.
This is not a true story but rather a parable. But the truths that are contained in this parable is the following:
1. What you do today creates your tomorrow.
2. A detour in life can place you on the a road to happiness.
3. Forgotten dreams are born again in prayer.
4. You will succeed if you stay consistent.
5. Your dreams can become your reality.
Today is the day for you to awaken to your dreams. Only you can determine how far you will go.
