I was in Birmingham Alabama last week at the National Primitive Baptist Convention. I knew by the leading of the Holy Spirit that I was suppose to attend the Kings Way Church where Jason Hooper is the Senior Pastor (http://www.kingswaybirmingham.com). On Thursday I was on Facebook and Jason was publicizing a gathering that started that night. The gathering was LAUNCHING OUT INTO THE DEEP: DISCOVERING THE HEART OF A CREATIVE GOD The guest teacher was Ray Hughes of Selah Ministries. Ray is an apostle, spiritual father and leading voice in the creative community. I knew that I needed to be at Kings Way that night and me and my son Quincy went that night.
Kings Way Church is not a normal church, it a gathering place for creative artists. It is a place of freedom for people to release creativity in worship. I walked through the building as the worship team ministered and it was like being in a art gallery. Some of the most incredible paintings and drawings that I have ever encountered hang on the walls. I was drawn into the beauty and my spirit connected with the Holy Spirit as I witnessed Him moving to encourage, strengthen and comfort through the paintings.
Ray Hughes (http://www.selahministries.com) released some incredible revelation in his teaching that night. He talked about the dove descending on the shoulder of Jesus. Ray shared that the dove, a picture of the Holy Spirit is a picture of holy imagination and a sign of Holy Spirit moving. Ray said that the first time a dove is mentioned in the Scriptures is when the dove leaves the ark to find a resting place in the earth after the flood. This principle caused me to see how creative artist is like the dove, moving in the earth looking for a place to rest. Could this be the reason why so many of us are restless because we have not found our resting place?
Ray really impacted me when he taught on the miracle of the great catch of fish recorded in Luke 5. Jesus told Peter to cast his nets in the water after a night of unsuccessful fishing. Peter didn’t think that was a good idea but he did as Jesus suggested. When Peter cast his net in the water he caught a large number of fish!
Ray said that Jesus created something for Peter to catch when nothing existed.
This is what I heard from what Ray said. Creativity is creating something in a place where nothing exist.
What are you creating that has not been created? Please share. I would love to read about the thing that you are creating.
