Last night I was listening to a group of prophetic Scribes, the word Scribe is the biblical word for writer, and they are sharing their struggles in the various places where they interacted with a community of believers. Every person who spoke had a similar story of pain, rejection and misunderstanding relative to their unique call as Scribes.
It pained my heart to hear these accounts. These Scribes who are created to be creative. These Scribes who are anointed to pen the Word of the Lord and release this Word to the Body of Christ and to the world were not embraced by the very persons who were called to covenant and encourage their unique gifts. But they could find no place in the house that they lived in.
As I was preparing to turn in for the night I asked myself why is it that those who are the most gifted are often the most rejected by those to whom they are called. Now I am no stranger to rejection but I have not yet encountered as a Scribe. It maybe that I have not experienced this because I have been aware of my identity as a Scribe for very long. However as a preacher of God’s Word and as a pastor I have known the pain of rejection. So as I was getting ready to power down my desktop and go to bed I heard Holy Spirit say, I send my Scribes to the house that will reject them the most so that when I call them out they will be free the most and have compassion on those who are traveling the path that they are traveling.
And then Holy Spirit lead me to St John 1:10-11 “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” Jesus was the creator of the world and mankind and they did not recognize Him when He appeared. They didn’t recognize the cause of their life. And then Israel, His own family, the ones to whom He established covenant with and they rejected Him too. Jesus came to His people as a gift and they rejected the gift.
You are a Scribe and you are Sent to a people to do the will of God but you may encounter rejection and isolation where you serve. The leaders that you honor may not honor you because they don’t understand you or the gift that you are operating in. You are a Scribe. You minister with your pen. You hear Holy Spirit speak to you to compose words that will move souls. You are different. And you are not understood. When I published my first book my mentor said to me that I was going to be surprised who would support and would not. These words were very prophetic. Like many of the Scribes on the Call last night my mentor also was a Scribe not received in her house. Bt the good news is that she is now in a house that embraces all of her gifts. She has a place in leadership.
I encourage you to stay faithful in the house that you are in and one day God will either set you in your own house or He will send you to a house that will embrace you. But then just in case you are Called to continue in houses that will not accept you be encouraged by the verse inSt John 1:12, “But as many as received Him to them He gave the right to become children fo God, to those who believed in His name.” Even though you are rejected ou will also be received. It’s a paradox but it’s true. You will be rejected in the house that you live in and you will be received in other places. Jesus was rejected in Nazareth but Capernaum embraced Him. Israel rejected Him but the Gentiles believed in Him.
