“Nine years ago I was disillusioned with my church. I was tired of the selfishness, the double standards and the lack of love.
“But I was more disillusioned with myself. I had become judgmental, callous and arrogant. I thought I was better than everybody in my life who didn’t go to church but I didn’t love them. I didn’t pray for them. I didn’t show them the love of God.”
“Oh Wow. that’s how I feel now.” Joanne said.
“I know. I can see the weight that comes when you know you’re in a place and you no longer belong there.”
“What changed for you, Lizette?”
“One day a team of believers was visiting in my neighborhood. I was getting out of my car and three people walked over to me. I thought that they were some religious nuts and I was ready to tell them off but then one of them prophesied to me and I felt the love of God. I invited them in and I met the Lord in a new way that afternoon. My life has not been the same.”
“So I guess you changed churches then?” Joanne asked.
“I did leave that church but I haven’t been back to a church since. The people I met that day meet all over the city. I would love to have you come to our weekly gathering. We’re meeting this Friday night at my house. ”
“You’re not a church. You don’t meet on Sunday?” Joanne asked.
“We are a church. Jesus said in Matthew where two or three are gathered in my name I am in the midst. We chose to gather in other places other than religious buildings.”
That Friday night Joanne went to Lizette’s Her discontent was over. She found her place. It was still church but unlike any church experience she ever had. Joanne was home.
